at the Energy Management Web Conference 2021
During the 2021 Energy Management Web Conference organised by Soiel International, the discussion was focused on PPAs and their role in current scenario of rising energy prices, the importance of energy management through monitoring and simulation software, energy storage and the capacity market.
Guest speakers at the event included colleagues Martina Ravasi, Technical and Regulatory Senior Consultant, Francesco Benvenuto, Head of Energy Management at Falck Renewables – Next Solutions and Fabio Zanellini, our Strategic Business Development Manager – both representing ANIE.
MARTINA RAVASI – “Software platforms: from measurement to efficient energy management”
Martina illustrated the importance of monitoring and energy data analysis as a resource to identify tailor-made strategies and optimise energy management within companies
To do this, she provided clear examples through the use of two software packages: firstly, she presented CloE, the monitoring platform developed by Energy Team that offers the user full control of all energy information through customizable apps. Secondly, she demonstrated operation of the simulation software, describing the flow enabling energy data to be taken as a starting point to detect critical areas and identify specific solutions through simulations of corrective actions.
FABIO ZANELLINI – “Current and future scenarios for storage systems””
Fabio provided a detailed analysis of the current situation in Italy regarding energy storage systems and presented possible future scenarios, starting with the legislative and regulatory framework and going on to present Terna data providing detailed description of the Italian situation and the evolution of these systems in recent years.
He spoke of the growing interest around this technology, pointing towards an increase in both connection requests and the size of systems involved. To conclude, he proposed a range of tools that incentivise grid users to consider investing in storage systems, demonstrating their strengths and areas for improvement.
FRANCESCO BENEVENUTO – “Will the recent rally in energy prices accelerate development of PPAs in Italy?”
Francesco analysed the state of development of PPAs in Italy and Europe in the context of significant energy price increases, to understand whether this temporary situation has driven an increase in the use of these contracts.
Francesco presented the benefits of PPAs, focusing on their role in the process of ecological transition and decarbonisation and concluded his discussion by presenting economic figures and considering possible short and medium-long-term future scenario.
